“In a time of Universal deceit, telling the
Truth is a Revolutionary Act.”

George Orwell

The Truth can be very plastic. Like clay, it can be molded, shaped, and warped towards whatever intention someone wants to spin it. In the midst of it we do our best to align towards a moral compass, but even magnetic north shifts over time, and we can find ourselves off course if we don't adjust.

Danger comes when we plant truth in concrete, fixed in time and slowly allow it to become our identity. When this happens, truth becomes idolatry. A religion where evidence no longer tests belief and any new truth is seen as an attack on a static reality. Even when the ideal no longer matches the reality it finds itself within. It's not what is real, but rather defending how it's defined, the flag that gets planted within it and defending it at all costs. Those that question and doubt become traitors and heretics.

This piece was painted in 2010, 2 years before the December 21, 2012 "End of the World" mania. It was for a Truth Convention that had speakers exploring many of the conspiracy theories flying around at the time. Disclosure, Constitutional Conspiracies, 9/11, 2012, and many others. I was commissioned to paint them all in a positive light as a poster for the event. The goal was to investigate and discuss them to discern the Truth of it all.

In the center, I placed myself meditating with them spinning all around, though it can also be taken as a metaphor for anyone. Inside the head, an alien fetus sits playing with a toy UFO, to the left is the Capitol building, to the right the Twin Towers. The shadows on the buildings form 9/11 with people running in chaos in all directions. Rising behind, the Aztec Sunstone as an omen of the coming Apocalypse, and its association with the Mayan Calendar. Mirrored below is the Astrological Wheel realigned correctly with the Spring Equinox. It was a time when people had all of a sudden awoke with the anxiety that their Sign had changed.

Misinformation bombards us constantly these days, and though its always been this way, the Internet and A.I. has made it easier for the Truth to be manipulated. We must do better in maintaining our center, keep our moral compass aligned, and adjust constantly. There is a great delusion surrounding us where confirmational bias is mistaken for critical thinking, and the best thing is to be aware that its spinning around us, trying to pull us in. It's good to question everything, and verify all information before accepting anything as Truth.
