Book 2: Sunstone
Chapter 3: Mother Nature’s Son
What are you bringing into the world?
The Creative Process, the ability to take an idea, gestate it within your imagination, and then release it onto the world is the truest form of magic. It's the greatest gift we as humans have been given
Through it, we can take all forms of negativity that bombard us every day, transform it, mold it, and release it back into the fold in a positive way. Change our world into the world we wish it to be.
It's a practice, though. A muscle that strengthens the more we exercise it, however, will atrophy if we ignore it. A mind / body connection that grows within us, focuses, and magnifies our very being.
This piece is also from the first batch of oil paintings I started back in 2005 as I was migrating onto the canvas. Continuing an exploration into nature themes, it was a meditation on the creative process. Both of the Earth, and within ourselves, and I was waking up to how we have the power within us to transform our lives, guide it onto the path we want to take, rather than be asleep at the wheel. Destiny and Will focusing together on the same horizon.
Within the womb of nature is the Starchild from Stanley Kubrick's 2001: A Space Odyssey. Our ideas continue to evolve forward, ever unfolding into what it is meant to be when we are ready.
The title comes from a song I first heard from John Denver, then realized it was a remake of an old Beatles song.
"Sit beside a mountain stream
See her waters rise
Listen to the pretty sound of music
As she flies, "
--Mother Nature's Son
We control our fate, we control our destiny, our wills drive us forward into that state of being.
