SOCRATES
It is here, in this painting, that the children, Ajna and Yosef first appeared across my works. They choose to say hello from time to time, but only when they want to, and not when I try to force them. They are characters that have percolated across my canvases weaving them together. Here, they are asking directions as they begin their first adventure together to explore the many faces of Creation. They have, since this painting, appeared in 4 other paintings, I will let you go and find them. Ajna is from our time, and Yosef is from 400 years in our future, they met in the Akashic Wormhole, two streams crossing.
In many ways, this painting reflects my interpretation of the Bardo, the space in Buddhism we pass through between death and rebirth. It is here we process our last life and reflect it against all that came before. Did we learn what we intended, do we need to continue the lesson? It is also from this place that we prepare for the next life, set-up the lesson plan and grab the knowledge we think we will need along the way. We also have the means to access this place through our lucid dreams.
Akashic Wormhole is also connected to what many have termed the Akashic Records, which made its first Pop Culture appearance in 1899 through a work by Charles Webster Leadbeater entitled "Clairvoyance." The word Akashic is derived from an old Sanskrit word, Akasha, meaning space, sky, and aether. It is the fundamental substance from which all things arise and dissolve, and the foundation of Hindu Cosmology. It's first use was in the Vedas.
There is a Great Library we pass through between experiences. It contains all the histories, memories, thoughts, ideas, mistakes, and triumphs. A recording of all the faces and experiences we have ever had, passing from one to the next like days in our lives. It has many names, has been called many things, but every time we find ourselves there, it's in a state of peace like the feeling of returning home. A small Universe we call our own.
At the entrance to the Akashic Wormhole, there is a podium from which you can pull down the books you need to recall and remember. Once placed, the space transforms to represent the one you chose, warping to reveal the inner pages. All the knowledge you need and desire before you. Up to the left, reference shelves and a good old fashion help desk, in case you need it. A librarian that reflects all the questions you have ever asked, or thoughts you choose to follow.
The book Ajna is reading is the Book of the Sun, and it the book that is on the Podium in the painting Akashic Workhole.
